Understanding why students are absent is the first step in getting them back to class and keeping them there. This month’s EDMS highlighted how identifying root causes behind absenteeism enables schools to create personalized, targeted interventions that meet students where they are.

Through collaborative efforts, Aldine ISD shared how they’re implementing a district-wide, data-driven approach to monitor attendance, engage families, and deploy strategic supports. From automated outreach and community partnerships to incentive-based recognition, their work is already showing strong results in ADA growth, increased instructional time, and improved student engagement.

By focusing on early identification and tailored support, schools can address attendance barriers more effectively, leading to better outcomes for students and stronger funding stability across campuses.
