Honoring Black Voices in Education
This Black History Month marks a century of recognition that has shaped Black self-understanding and deepened the nation’s understanding of the African diaspora’s contributions.
Across U.S. education, Black leaders have shaped more equitable and human-centered approaches that strengthen schools and communities. Their work has helped shift how we understand student engagement, belonging, and attendance not simply as numbers to improve, but as indicators of whether schools truly support all learners.
One such leader is Sharon Bradley, RaaWee Principal Consultant and national education expert with more than 25 years of experience in student engagement, equity, and dropout prevention. Sharon has guided districts to rethink chronic absenteeism through compassionate, strategic interventions that address root causes and support students and families.
“Chronically absent students are not just ‘skipping’ — they are missing school because something else is missing in their lives that require coordinated, compassionate, and strategic interventions.”
— Sharon Bradley
Her leadership reflects a broader Black legacy in education, one rooted in equity, community connection, and the belief that every student deserves the support to be present and succeed.
